Keith, Parker and I had a little family weekend getaway recently to St. Louis. We left super early last Saturday morning and drove straight to the zoo. Apparently, the zoo in St. Louis is one of the top ten zoos in the country and it's free thanks to public subsidy from a cultural tax district.
The zoo is located in Forest Park, the seventh largest urban park in the U.S. Since the weather was perfect, we took a walk through the park and enjoyed the day.
When we left the park we weren't ready to head inside yet, so we stopped by the Missouri Botanical Garden.
The next day we saw the sunrise (thanks, Parker) and then headed to the Arch where we rode in a tiny tram to the top.
For lunch we had toasted ravioli and St. Louis style pizza at a little place in "The Hill."
On our way to the Cathedral Basilica after lunch, we passed this:
Cathedral Basilica has the largest mosaic installation in the world. Pope John Paul II visited the Cathedral in 1999.
When we left the Cathedral, we made a trip to Ted Drewe's for a "concrete." It's so thick that when turned upside down it doesn't fall out of the cup. (Thanks for the recommendation, Laura!)
After packing in so much site seeing- with a baby no less!- we decided to be lazy, order take out and hang out at the hotel Sunday night. Somebody really enjoyed the king size bed. ;)
Before heading home Monday morning we (ok, I) had one more thing to see- the International Shoe building. International Shoe Co. was a party in the Supreme Court case now taught to every first year law student in Civil Procedure when learning about personal jurisdiction.
And with that, we were homeward bound with a baby that slept 3 hours of the 5 hour drive. Woohoo!
