Barbados: Day 2

Keith and I are doers not sitters. So, on day 2 of our vacation we woke up to this and then got ready for our Land & Sea tour. The land part consisted of us riding around the island with 9 other people in this
and seeing things like this
National Flower
People take their livestock to someone else's property to graze for the day.
Sugar Cane is a major crop in Barbados. Sugar Factory
Someone was building a boat in their yard.
Bathsheba
This looks like a man's profile. See it?
Morgan Lewis Mill is the only intact sugar mill in Barbados and one of two in the entire Carribean. The walls are boulders held together by egg whites and coral dust.
Before leaving the land part of the tour to take to the sea, we went "off-roading" in the zebra Land Rover.
Look closely and you can see the large needles that cover both sides of this palm.
Ready to get in the water with our vests and snorkel gear
to swim with the turtles!
From the catamaran we saw The Cliff
(top 50 restaurant in 03, 04, and 05)
After our land and sea adventure we went to the Sandy Lane Gold Cup horse race
where we blindly placed bets on horses 6 and 8.
This dog put on a pre-race show.
We won!
Finally, we enjoyed a delicious and local dinner at Brown Sugar
and ended the day with this sunset.

Barbados: Day 1

As ya'll know, Keith and I just spent 7 (wonderful) days in Barbados. As ya'll also know, I'm kindof (ok, majorly) picture crazy. How do I even begin to share our 700+ pictures? My solution: day by day.
So, without further ado, Day 1...

After sitting through 2 accidents on I-65, a short night in Louisville, and 2 plane rides, we made it!Our ride for the week.
Notice the steering wheel is on the wrong side.
"H" on the license plate = Tourist
We were always excited to see other "H"s on the road!

View from our room!

The famous Friday night Oistins Fish Fry:
Every Friday night in the fishing village of Oistins, the fishermen bring their catch from the day and grill the fish at one of dozens of open air stalls. The National Dish: flying fish
and macaroni pie
After dinner we took in some local entertainment
and did some "window shopping"
We couldn't have asked for a more fun first day/night!

Family

When Keith and I returned from our trip, I got a phone call that family was in town from Mississippi for the weekend. I was so excited to see Sharon, Paula, and Aunt Lane (Memi's sister) who I hadn't seen since Keith and I got married a year and a half ago. Memi was very close with all of her sisters and brothers and I grew up seeing them all frequently. It was good for my heart to see them and reminisce, and Keith was such a good sport for putting up with all the story swapping. I hope that it isn't another year and a half before seeing them again!
